Alliances: Science and collaboration for the Amazon: an initiative unites efforts to turn knowledge into action.

The Bioamazonia Network, the Avina Foundation, and World-Transforming Technologies announced this week, during the #COP30, a strategic partnership to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation in the Pan-Amazon region.

The objective is to formulate and strengthen a common pan-Amazonian mission-oriented research agenda, articulating the priorities and capacities of the Network's institutes and driving solutions to the social, economic, and environmental challenges that threaten the biome.

The proposal is inspired by the pioneering experience of Colombia's Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute, whose trajectory is a regional and international benchmark for mission-oriented science. The Institute has demonstrated that the collaborative construction of research agendas can transform scientific knowledge into concrete action:

«The Humboldt Institute has demonstrated that mission-oriented research is capable of generating relevant and applicable scientific responses, integrating science, territory, and society. This experience is now being scaled up pan-Amazonian with the participation of the other institutes in the BioAmazonia Network.».

RedBioamazonia brings together eight research institutes from five countries in the region, committed to cross-border, interdisciplinary, and intercultural science, science made for, with, and by the Amazon. Its creation stems from the urgency to respond to climate crises and the accelerated loss of biodiversity in one of the planet's most vital biomes.

Avina Foundation, with over 30 years of work in the Global South, is recognized for its role in driving systemic transformations and promoting collaborative initiatives among communities, governments, businesses, and civil society. For its part, @World-Transforming Technologies, an innovation front within the Avina ecosystem, is a benchmark in impact technologies and mission-oriented innovation methodologies, building networks among scientists, organizations, and funders to develop large-scale solutions.

Together, the three institutions seek to build a common scientific agenda, based on the mobilization and co-production of knowledge, that promotes the sustainable use of Amazonian biodiversity, strengthens the bioeconomy and this biome, with the participation of women, indigenous peoples, and communities in all stages of the process.

This alliance represents a milestone for Pan-Amazonian scientific cooperation — and an invitation to action: transforming science into a practical instrument for innovation, large-scale action, and hope.
