The Amazon in Plain Sight | The BioAmazonia Network Inaugurates a Photographic Exhibition at COP30 in Belém.

Within the framework of the official opening of COP30, the Bioamazonía Network presents the photographic exhibition «Amazonia at Sight» (Amazonia in Plain Sight), a proposal that invites the public to reflect on the threats and solutions in the Amazon region.

Curated by João Valsecchi y Miguel Monteiro , of Mamiraua Sustainable Development Institute, the exhibition brings together images captured by photographers from the research institutes that make up the Bioamazon Network — a network that connects pan-Amazonian scientific centers from 🇧🇷 🇧🇴 🇨🇴 🇪🇨 🇵🇪.

The photographs showcase the vibrant beauty of the rainforest, traditional communities, and the footprints of climate change, human expansion, and territorial pressures.

“Even without the help of satellites or optical instruments, we can all observe with our own eyes the changes the Amazon is undergoing,” state the curators, inviting the public to observe, reflect, and participate.

The exhibition has already been visited by the Brazilian Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, by the Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, and by the President of Inter-American Development Bank (BID), Ilan Goldfajn.

The free exhibition, open to the public, is part of the Bioamazonía Network's programming for COP30, at the Estação Amazônia Sempre space in the Goeldi Museum, with thematic dialogues on: Conflicts and biodiversity, Local governance, Bioeconomy, and Pan-Amazonian knowledge.

These initiatives aim to highlight the Amazon as a protagonist in scientific, technological, and social solutions for the global environmental crisis.
